Soroptimist International of Indian Rock, Inc. Three women leaders were honored for their tireless, inspiring efforts to bring positive change to the lives of women, girls and others living in our county and beyond. The awards honor women who have been working in their communities to promote literacy, mental health, inclusion, education, and personal empowerment.

"Helping our children find their inner light"
I grew up watching beloved TV personality Fred Rogers of the Mister Rogers Neighborhood series.
My heroes were my mom and dad, Sheila and Stan, who served as the inspiration to always work hard, be kind and root for the underdog,
Fred's mother always told him in times of trouble to look for the helpers.
According to Rogers, we live in a world in which responsibility must be shared... it’s too easy to say it’s not my problem and turn our backs on our children, our communities, and our world. He referred to those who saw and responded to the needs as his heroes. I couldn’t agree more.

I believe we all have the power within to lead with servant hearts, to be helpers to different people at different times. It's a choice we make on a daily basis.

Lisa Founded Empower Kids For Literacy
Empower Kids For Literacy is a non-profit organization that Lisa founded based on her love for children and books.
OUR MISSION STATEMENT
To promote literacy and mental health through the formation of partnerships within the community by providing children with access to books in underserved communities.
It is my belief, without question, that all children have the right to have access to books and the support system to learn how to read, despite their social or personal circumstances.
All children need to know they are loved, are capable of loving, and belong.

Found this video from 2018 when I brought Dad to New Albany School to meet the extraordinary Librarian Linda Hohl Conn. Such a special moment to share. He loved children and he was a very important part of my getting The Adventures of Finley and Cisco out there.
